About Mark I Tank
The first tank ever used in combat, at the Somme in September 1916. Crew of 8 endured deafening noise, choking fumes, and extreme heat. Top speed was 6 km/h. The rhomboid shape allowed it to cross trenches. Soldiers inside could communicate only by hand signals.
