About Excalibur
The sword in the stone, pulled by Arthur to prove his right to rule. Some legends say he received it from the Lady of the Lake. The name may derive from Latin excalceare, meaning to remove from stone. Geoffrey of Monmouth first wrote about it in 1136. Whether based on a real weapon or pure myth, it remains the most famous sword in Western culture.
