About Brown Bess

The standard British musket for over 100 years. Used in every major conflict from the Seven Years War through Napoleon. Accuracy was poor, effective to about 75 meters. The bayonet turned it into a pike. Over 5 million were produced. The name origin is debated, possibly from the brown walnut stock.
