About Battering Ram
Took 40-100 men to operate the largest ones. Covered sheds protected the operators from arrows and boiling oil. The Romans used them with devastating efficiency at Masada. The name comes from the shape of the bronze head, often carved as a ram. Some siege rams were suspended from frames for greater impact.
