About B-17 Flying Fortress
Could absorb staggering damage and still fly home. One B-17 returned with 180 holes and only half a tail. Over 12,700 built. The Norden bombsight was supposedly accurate enough to hit a pickle barrel. Daylight precision bombing over Germany was horrifically costly.
